How much will MyWorld Facilities cost to hire?

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is funded by MyWorld then it’s fully subsidised (see FAQs)

 

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is not funded by MyWorld then it’s available at cost

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is for commercial activity then it’s available at market rate

 

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is for privately funded research then it’s available at market rate

 

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is for a collaborative research project with a MyWorld Partner University wishing to use a MyWorld facility then it’s available at cost

 

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is for a not-for-profit skills development project then it’s fully subsidised or available at cost

 

  • If the equipment, space or labour you’re hiring is for a profit making skills development project then it’s available at market rate

Facilities hire FAQs

A ‘MyWorld funded activity’ is one of the following: CR&D Project, Challenge Call Project, Sandbox Project, Fellowship, Experimental Production, Skills training course or workshop, Pathfinder Research Activity, Experimental Productions & Connected Research Themes, Creative Economies Research Project.

MyWorld funded equipment and spaces are listed on the Facilities webpages under the description of the equipment or space.

A MyWorld Facility is a university creative R&D and training Facility with common access models, shared resources and shared equipment. See the Studio page for more information.

‘Fully subsidised’ means equipment, space or labour provided at no charge to the hirer. This is not the same as ‘free’, it is fully subsidised as the cost is met by MyWorld. The value of the subsidy being provided is to be included in subsidy control checks, where relevant. The subsidy value is the same as the full market rate.

‘At Cost’ means there is no profit to the supplier – it is the running/maintenance cost of the equipment or facility. The ‘At Cost’ rate is based on a TRAC costing produced by the University facility in line with its own TRAC policy.

Transparent Approach to Costing (TRAC) is a methodology developed with the higher education sector to help cost activities. It uses institutional expenditure information to provide the full economic cost of activities.

‘Market Rate’ is based on commercial market rates for a similar service or equipment hire.
