The Visual Information-Laboratory at the University of Bristol, as part of the MyWorld Programme, has won funding from Tencent (US) to conduct a multi-year collaborative project on perceptually enhanced deep video compression for emerging applications.

This project, led by Professor David Bull and Dr Aaron Zhang, will conduct investigations into new areas, including diverse and representative databases, novel network architectures, AI-based quality metrics, and complexity reduction.

The research will primarily focus on user-generated content (UGC), which is particularly relevant to the services provided by Tencent through their core product, WeChat, and other online game applications. The initial phase of this collaboration will support a researcher within VI-Lab to work alongside colleagues in MyWorld WP1.2.
