MyWorld co-sponsors world-leading international wildlife film festival Wildscreen, including a special message from Sir David Attenborough
Back in October 2022, MyWorld was proud to support and co-sponsor Wildscreen, the world-leading international wildlife film and TV festival. The October event marked the charity’s 40th birthday and the first ever hybrid edition.
MyWorld in partnership with Invest Bristol & Bath, produced a compelling panel highlighting innovation within natural world storytelling, in particular exploring how new platforms and approaches are seeking to engage and influence audiences.
Chaired by Mandy Rose, Professor of Documentary and Digital Cultures at the University of the West of England (UWE), the panel consisted of Keith Scholey from Silverback Films, Barney Steel from Marshmallow Laser Feast, Matt Shaw from ScanLAB and Tom Burton from BBC Studios.
To kick-start the session the panel asked a central question of “what is the role of innovation in seeking to communicate and personalise complex messages around climate change?”. The question was then expanded by highlighting specific recent projects, and in doing so opened a discussion on ‘hybrid’ production – finding a model to bridge the gap between 100 million passive TV viewers and 200 thousand highly engaged immersive participants.
The panel session was recorded and can be watched in full over on the MyWorld YouTube channel.
